A 28-year-old woman attacked another woman inside a Stockton home and then set fire to the residence, endangering three children inside, police said.

Authorities were called to the 900 block of north Sutter Street about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. At a home there, they say Hope Newcomb attacked a 36-year-old woman and then set the structure ablaze.

In addition to the female victim, two girls — ages 10 and 13 — and a 14-year-old boy were inside the residence at the time, police said. All escaped the fire without injury.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from a domestic disturbance, police said, but the relationship between Newcomb and the victims was not immediately clear.

Newcomb was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on two felony charges — arson and willful cruelty to a child — arrest records show. She also faces two misdemeanor charges of battery, one involving a spouse or ex-spouse and the other involving a peace officer. Police say the latter charge was added because Newcomb spat on an officer while in custody.

She is being held in jail in lieu of $290,000 bail and is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Thursday.
