A 41-year-old resident of Lodi was arrested in Missouri this week on suspicion of killing two relatives, police said.

Oscar Hernandez was apprehended Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. by the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office and is waiting for extradition to San Joaquin County.

Lodi officers were dispatched on Monday at 6:32 p.m. to the 1100 block of South Central Avenue on a report of shots fired inside of a residence.

A 36-year-old man and a 49-year-old man were found at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the 36-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and the second man was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Hernandez had allegedly fled the scene prior to the arrival of the officers.

An investigation led police to suspect Hernandez was the person allegedly responsible for the shooting and also revealed a family relation between the victims and the suspect.

For two days, Lodi Police Department detectives worked with the U.S. Marshals Service and the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office to track Hernandez down.

Police said a motive for the shooting is still under investigation.

“We are aware of rumors circulating online that indicate this dispute may have spurred from a sexual assault, and we are actively investigating those allegations,” the Lodi Police Department said in a social media post.
