Two suspects who fled police during an attempted traffic stop in Lodi earlier this week and caused a school shutdown were located and detained, deputies said.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies tried to make a traffic stop shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday on a vehicle at Lockeford Street and Cherokee Lane. The vehicle stopped for deputies then allegedly fled and intentionally struck the law enforcement vehicle.

A short pursuit ensued, ultimately ending with the suspect driver fleeing from deputies on foot in the 900 block of Wellswood Avenue. Deputies were able to detain the suspect a short time later.

A passenger who was also in the vehicle during the chase fled on foot.

The suspect initially crossed Highway 99 and ended up in the 500 block of Murray Street. The suspect was later found and arrested.

Lawrence Elementary School was shut down out of precaution and safety for students and faculty.

The names of the suspects were not immediately released.
