The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office evacuated the county’s Superior Court building in downtown Stockton Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was received.
Members of the public arriving at the courthouse throughout the day were turned away by building security. Currently, only law enforcement officials are allowed into the building.
The Sheriff’s Office was initially tipped off about the possible danger just before 10:30 a.m., resulting in the law enforcement agency conducting a security assessment of the facility. A security guard in front of the courthouse told Stocktonia that courthouse officials were informed of a bomb threat around 11 a.m.
San Joaquin County Superior Court first announced news of the bomb threat about five minutes later on social media, asking people to stay away from the courthouse. An hour later, officials announced the building would remain closed for the rest of the day.
This is the second bomb threat the San Joaquin County Superior Court has had this year. In June, a man claiming to have a bomb entered the courthouse, also forcing an evacuation of the building.
