Multiple agencies bring in wanted fugitive out of Calaveras County

A fugitive out of Calaveras County wanted on suspicion of multiple violent felonies was arrested in Stockton last week, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Wednesday at about 4 p.m., U.S. Marshals apprehended the fugitive with the help of multiple agencies, including the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. 

Johnny Miller, 34, from the town of West Point, was found in the 8900 block of state Highway 88 in Stockton, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said. 

Miller was wanted for charges of attempted murder, carjacking, and several other violent felonies stemming from joint investigations conducted by the California Highway Patrol and the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. 

A warrant for Miller was issued due to a violent incident in the West Point area in August that he was allegedly involved in, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said. 

The Calaveras Sheriff’s Office and CHP worked closely with the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office to obtain the arrest warrant. U.S. Marshals were contacted to assist in Miller’s apprehension, which was considered a high priority, given the serious nature of the charges against him, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office said.

The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force surveilled Miller at the Highway 88 address in combination with air support from the Stockton Police Department and CHP. Several other agencies, including the San Joaquin AB109 Task Force, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Special Service Unit, and the Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force assisted in apprehending Miller.  

Miller allegedly attempted to flee the area on foot while holding what appeared to be a firearm. With coordinated law enforcement efforts, he was intercepted and ultimately surrendered. No injuries were reported during the operation. 

Miller was transported and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail and then was transferred to the Calaveras County Jail on Friday on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a firearm, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, carjacking, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, unlawful possession of ammunition, and additional firearm-related crimes.
