Police were searching for clues Sunday into the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in Stockton’s Bear Creek District.
The incident occurred Saturday night in the 800 block of Macduff Avenue, police said. There were no immediate suspects and Stockton police had not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Medical personnel attempted to save the young man’s life, but the victim died from his injuries, officers said.
The shooting comes in a year in which Stockton has seen roughly the same number of murders as the previous year to this point. As of Tuesday, there had been 40, compared to 39 the same time last year. Police spokesman Officer David Scott said that detectives have solved — what they call a“clearance rate” — of 57% of their homicide cases so far this year.
“That is more than half of the homicides committed this year having an arrest made in the case,” Scott said in a statement. “Detectives continuously work hard and will continue to diligently work on the cases that have yet to have an arrest made.”
