A shooting at a Stockton house party that left a 17-year-old dead over the weekend has become a complicated investigation for homicide detectives.
Donyé Teal of Merced was fatally wounded shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday during what was described as a “large party” in the 12000 block of East Whitehouse Road. The teen later died at a local hospital, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Because “multiple individuals may have been involved,” detectives said the case is “an active and ongoing investigation.” Officials said Tuesday there’s no additional information being released at this time.
On a GoFundMe page organized by Vail Teal, one of the boy’s parents described Donyé as having “one of the brightest personalities you could see in a kid.”
He “loved telling jokes and making people laugh,” the post said. The fatal shooting is still under investigation, “and the only details I know are that there was an altercation at the party and he was shot as he left the house,” the note continued.
“Regardless of what the issue was, he didn’t deserve to be killed — no one does. This was a very senseless death, and everyone is torn up about it.”
Sheriff’s investigators are asking for the public’s help in trying to uncover details leading up to the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (209) 468-4400.
