A 53-year-old man was found fatally wounded Monday in a residential neighborhood near the University of the Pacific campus in Stockton, police said.

Officers discovered the victim with gunshot wounds shortly after 2 p.m. when they arrived at the scene in the 1600 block of Princeton Avenue, west of North Pershing Avenue and the university campus, Stockton police said. The man was rushed to an area hospital, where he died.

The San Joaquin County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as BeJay Orth, a Lodi resident.

Police said there was no additional information on circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“This early in the investigation, there is no suspect information, and the motive remains unknown,” Stockton police Officer David Scott told Stocktonia.

The fatal shooting is the 47th homicide of the year, compared to 45 during the same span last year, according to the department’s monthly crime statistics.
