A 28-year-old Stockton man driving a stolen car slammed into another vehicle while being chased at high speeds by San Joaquin County sheriff’s deputies in Stockton. The result was three deaths — the suspect and two occupants of the car he struck, authorities said.
The chase began at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday at Wilson Way and Harding Way when the driver of the stolen vehicle, later identified by the county Medical Examiner’s office as Alejo Elias Jr., refused to pull over. Deputies initiated a pursuit as a result that reached high speeds, the sheriff’s office said. The pursuit came to a halt when the suspect plowed into another vehicle at Airport Way and Hazelton Avenue.
The passenger killed in the car struck by Alejo’s vehicle was Darren Hickerson, 61, of Stockton, according to the Medical Examiner’s office. The driver’ identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The sheriff’s office said it is investigating the incident in conjunction with the Stockton Police Department.
