Homicide detectives continued to search for clues Tuesday following the shooting death of a 28-year-old woman in Stockton’s Bear Creek District over the weekend.
The woman was found about 3:19 a.m. Saturday with a gunshot wound in the 1900 block of Hickock Court. She was rushed to a hospital, where she died, authorities said.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Stephanie Hernandez, a Stockton resident.
Police said Tuesday the fatal shooting appears to be related to a domestic dispute, but authorities did not offer further details.
The killing marks the fourth homicide in the city this year, compared to six during the same span last year.
So far, homicides are down 33% and shootings are off 22% compared to the same period last year, Stockton Officer Omer Edhah said.
Anyone with information about Hernandez’s death is asked to call the Stockton Police Department’s non-emergency line at (209) 937-8377.
