Overview:

A weekend crash killed three and injured two in a subcompact car that the California Highway Patrol said turned in front of a pickup truck near Clements.

Authorities on Monday released the names of two Stockton residents who were among three people killed in a weekend collision near Clements.

Simon Onesavanh, 37, and Skyy Richardson, 21, both of Stockton, were declared dead at the scene of Sunday’s crash on State Route 88. In addition, a Lockeford resident — Angela Maldonado, 25 — also was killed, according to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Five people — including Onesavanh, Richardson and Maldonado — were traveling east on SR 88, east of Clements Road, in a subcompact Ford Fiesta when they made an unsafe turn in front of a Toyota Tacoma pickup traveling in the opposite direction, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The two vehicles collided about 3:49 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway. Authorities have not disclosed who was driving the small car, but said the driver was among those killed in the crash.

Both vehicles are believed to have been traveling at 55 mph leading up to the collision, authorities said, and alcohol consumption is suspected to have played a role in the crash. In addition, none of the five people in the car are believed to have been wearing seat belts.

Two others riding in the subcompact car suffered major injuries, while the driver of the pickup sustained moderate injuries, the CHP said. They were transported to San Joaquin County General Hospital.

Lockeford and Clements are small unincorporated communities northeast of Stockton.
