A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police say he kidnapped a woman and young child and then intentionally crashed his vehicle into a bus stop in downtown Stockton late Thursday night.

Gonzalo Macias was arrested shortly after 11:15 p.m. in the area of west Fremont and north Commerce streets, Stockton police said.

Macias threatened a 24-year-old woman and a 1-year-old boy and demanded they leave in his vehicle, police said in a report. Authorities said the pair knew Macias.

After they complied and he was driving, police say Macias told the woman he was going to kill them, then intentionally crashed his car into a bus stop in downtown Stockton.

The two victims were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive their injuries.

Macias was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, child abuse, driving under the influence, as well as weapons and drug offenses. Police said when officers arrested Macias at the scene, they found a loaded firearm and narcotics in his possession.
