A woman who was struck and killed by a train was identified Thursday as a 48-year-old Manteca resident.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s office said the victim was Melissa Dunn.
Police said the accident occurred at 11:48 a.m. Wednesday after they received a report of a person lying on the tracks near 1205 Moffat Blvd. in Manteca as a train was approaching. Officers rushed to the scene, but it was too late.
The tracks run along the west side of Moffat. The woman’s body was found underneath the Highway 120 overpass.
Officers added that the case was considered an active investigation and asked anyone with information about the woman or the incident to contact them at (209) 456-8101.
It was not yet clear whether the death would be classified as an accident, suicide or homicide.
