A man who died in Manteca after a vehicle struck his electric scooter has been identified as Steven Wilson, 57, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday.

Wilson was a Manteca resident, the spokesperson said.

At about 8:20 p.m. on Friday, the 57-year-old man was riding an electric scooter southbound on the east side of North Airport Way, according to a department press release.

Wilson was traveling southbound on the east side of North Airport, department officials said.

As he was trying to cross over to the west side of North Airport, Wilson was struck by a vehicle, officials said. His daughter and brother remained on the east side of the street and weren’t involved in the collision, officials said.

Responding police officers and medics attempted lifesaving measures, and Wilson was taken to an area hospital, where he died, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, officials said. Police didn’t identify the driver, but said the driver is a Manteca resident.

The press release didn’t specify how fast the scooter and vehicle were traveling when the collision occurred, or whether the driver and Wilson were following traffic laws. However, it was noted that “there were no street lights” in the area.

It’s unknown if Wilson was wearing a helmet or other protective gear, or if any lights on the scooter were on, police officials said.
