Two men found shot to death on Memorial Day in Stockton have been identified, authorities said.
A report of gunfire in the area prompted a police response in the 300 block of south San Joaquin Street at 4:45 p.m. Monday. Police found two men suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived. Paramedics declared the men dead at the scene.
The two victims were identified Wednesday by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s office as Jessie Hilliard Jr., 19, and Antwane Perkins, 27, both of Stockton.
In the belief that the shooter might still be on the premises, SWAT officers were called out to conduct a thorough search of the building after the shooting. That prompted officers to post a notice on social media advising the public to steer clear of the area while the investigation and search were underway.
No suspects were found during the sweep.
The double homicide follows another shooting death of a Stockman man over the long holiday weekend.
A 30-year-old identified by the medical examiner’s office Wednesday as Victor Daniel Sebastian Govea was found suffering from a gunshot wound at 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 2400 Block of east Main Street. Police said he died at a local hospital. No suspects have been identified in that slaying.
The city has reported 17 homicides this year, compared to 23 in the same span last year.
