Two people who drowned in Lathrop over the weekend were identified Tuesday as Stockton residents.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office said the victims were Sea Sokhin, 43, and Chantha Hurm, 41. The office said the exact cause of death for the two is still pending.
Few other details have been released, although Lathrop police said Saturday the drownings occurred in “local waterways” and were being treated as accidental. The locations of where the bodies were recovered also was not disclosed.
One death investigation is being led by the Lathrop Police Department, and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is handling the other, authorities said.
Police said the drownings underscore the need for water safety as more people are taking to local rivers and canals during the summer. Including the two deaths in Lathrop, there have been at least 10 drownings in San Joaquin County this year, sheriff’s officials said.
