The victim who died in a double shooting in Caldwell Park was identified Tuesday by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office as Adrian Ledesma, 19, of Stockton.
City Councilman Mario Enriquez said it appears the fatal shooting of Ledesma and wounding of a 17-year-old, whose identity was not revealed, appeared to be related to a dispute between two groups.
Ledesma and the other victim were both found suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after midnight Monday in the park in the 3100 block of Allston Way, police said. The younger victim was reported to be in stable condition.
A suspect or a motive are yet to emerge in what become the city’s 23rd homicide of the year. Even with the latest death, the count is falls far short of the 33 at this time last year.
In a posting on social media, Enriquez said the shootings appeared to be the result of a dispute between two groups.
He offered condolences to Ledesma’s family and wished a recovery for the other victim. He thanked police and asked that those responsible be brought to justice.
“Public safety is my top priority. I am committed to working closely with our police, community partners, and residents to address violence in our neighborhoods, and to ensure that our parks and public spaces remain safe for everyone,” he said .
