A rapist convicted in 2012 in San Joaquin County has been denied parole, the District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
Christopher Chessman cannot go up before the parole board for another 15 years, prosecutors said.
Stockton resident Chessman was convicted of forcible rape involving four victims, along with pimping, pandering, and kidnapping, but was up for parole this year due to his age at the time of the crimes. Prosecutors argued to the parole board that he had shown no rehabilitation and was involved in a prison gang, has had multiple rule violations during incarceration and even a new sexual offense conviction. The District Attorney’s Office said he had a high chance of violently reoffending.
“The 15-year denial was propelled by a victim’s powerful impact statement detailing disturbing ongoing threats, leading commissioners to report the conduct for investigation and praise her bravery,” said the DA’s Office. “In a system where three-year denials are standard, this marked a historic shift.”
Chessman forced vulnerable young girls as young as 13 into prostitution, according to police.
