Obdulia Sanchez, a Stockton resident who drew national attention for livestreaming a crash that killed her younger sister, died Tuesday from what officials said appeared to be a drive-by shooting. She was 26.
On Tuesday, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies had found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds at the 700 block of Gertrude Avenue from an apparent drive-by shooting.
The woman, later identified by the San Joaquin County Office of the Medical Examiner as Sanchez, later died at a local hospital. Authorities have not shared the identity of the man or his condition.
Sheriff officials said the shooting is unrelated to Saturday’s mass shooting that killed three children and one adult.
In 2017, Sanchez drew national attention for driving a 2003 Buick drunk and live streaming a crash that killed her 14 year old sister, Jacqueline Sanchez.
Sanchez, 19 at the time, was later charged for vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence and child endangerment. She was sentenced to six years in prison.
Sanchez was arrested again in 2019 for weapons and traffic charges, Stockton Police Department had then reported.
Sanchez’s cause of death will not be disclosed until a toxicity sample has been completed, the medical examiner’s office said.
