Stockton officers have arrested a man in connection to the killing of a woman in the city in December, according to police.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Stockton Police Department identified him as 47-year-old Luis Zavalza. He was already detained for another alleged crime before he was named the main suspect in the December killing, according to the department.

The case stems from Dec. 12, when a woman was found dead in the city’s Civic District. Police officers were called to the 400 block of East Lindsay Street at about 8:45 a.m. that day after the victim was found unresponsive with an apparent laceration to her upper body.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after police arrived.
