A 21-year-old Stockton man is dead after being struck by a car during an altercation in east Stockton, according to the Stockton Police Department.

Gonzalo Cervantes Jr., 21, of Stockton was identified by the San Joaquin County Office of the Medical Examiner.

Officers responded to a crash that happened at around 10:50 p.m. Sunday near the 3300 block of East Main Street in the Park District of Stockton, police said. Cervantes Jr. and unidentified suspects were in an altercation.

As the suspects reportedly fled the scene, police said they hit Cervantes Jr.with their car.

The 21-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Detectives responded to assist with the investigation, police said. 

As of Friday, no arrests have been made and no releasable suspect information Is available, according to SPD. 

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
