Stockton police detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man discovered fatally wounded on local railroad tracks this week.

Officers were called to the tracks near Anderson Street and Interstate 5 at 3:05 p.m. Thursday. Once there, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Officer Omer Edhah said.

The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the man.

While a motive in the fatal shooting has not yet been determined, police believe the death is a homicide. If classified as such, it would be the 10th this year, compared to 18 homicides during the same span last year, according to police data.

No suspect has been identified in the killing. Edhah urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377, or use the anonymous crime tip line Stockton Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600.
