Stockton police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old woman who was fatally shot late Monday night in south Stockton.
Officers responded around 11 p.m. to the 600 block of West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after receiving a report of a shooting, according to the Stockton Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. Medical personnel took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives responded and took over the investigation, police said, which remains ongoing. Police did not immediately release information about a suspect or motive.
Stockton had recorded fewer homicides and nonfatal shootings through the end of May than it had during the same period last year, according to Stockton Police Department spokesperson Omar Edah. The city reported nine homicides, compared with 17 at that point in 2025, while nonfatal shootings fell from 44 to 35.
