The search for a suspect in a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist and two dogs ended this week with the arrest of a 30-year-old Stockton man and the impounding of his damaged SUV, authorities said.

Larry Page was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run causing death or injury, the California Highway Patrol’s Stockton office said in a social media post. His silver Ford Explorer, which showed significant front-end damage, was towed away.

The CHP had sought the public’s help in finding the vehicle involved in the June 27 fatality in Stockton. Authorities did not release where the SUV had been found or where Page was taken into custody.

The SUV was seen approaching the bicyclist and dogs about 10:18 a.m. that day on Eight Mile Road, east of Interstate 5, CHP officials said. After the collision, the SUV fled the scene.

The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 41-year-old James Federer of Stockton, the Lodi News reported. Investigators said Federer had likely been dead four to 12 hours before CHP officers discovered the crash site near Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park, the news outlet reported.

The CHP credited the Delta Regional Auto Theft Team and its own Crime Suppression Team for having “worked tirelessly to identify the driver responsible for this tragic crime.”
