A 23-year-old Stockton woman has been identified by loved ones as among the three people killed during a shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Authorities had not publicly released the names of those killed in the shooting as of Monday afternoon, saying officials were still working to notify their families.
But friends and family said in social media posts that Ashley Garibay of Stockton was among those killed. National news organizations, including The Guardian, also reported Garibay’s identity based on posts from her loved ones.
The Twin Falls City Communications Center began receiving 911 calls reporting gunfire at 2:29 p.m. Saturday, according to reports from the Twin Falls Police Department.
Three people were killed in the attack, and seven others were wounded, officials said. Two people were treated and released, three were in stable condition and two remained in critical condition as of Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
The gunman, identified by police as 24-year-old Chad Williams, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. Investigators believe Williams acted alone but had not yet determined a motive in the shootings.
The attack happened at an In-N-Out that opened late last month as part of the California chain’s Idaho expansion.
An off-duty Idaho State Police trooper and a civilian fired on Williams during the attack. Police said their actions helped drive him away from the restaurant and may have prevented additional casualties.
On Monday, police were still trying to determine why Williams carried out the attack, which happened in a busy shopping plaza in the southern Idaho city, the AP reported.
In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder confirmed that one of the company’s employees was among those killed. “My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I’ve shed. We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight,” Snyder wrote in a social media statement.
Snyder said the company would mourn with the victims’ families and expressed concern for the employees and customers who witnessed the attack. She did not publicly identify the employee.
A GoFundMe account created by Sabrina Garibay is raising money to help the family cover funeral expenses. In a posting on the fundraising page, the woman indicated she is Ashley Garibay’s mother.
“My beautiful angel Ashley gained her wings while working at IN N OUT … doing what she loved,” the organizer said.
She described the young woman as an “amazing soul” with “the most beautiful heart,” calling her a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend who left a lasting impression on the people who knew her.
