A 72-year-old woman was stabbed to death early Tuesday in Stockton, and a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal attack, police said.
Officers were called to the 2200 block of Hackberry Street at 12:43 a.m. after a relative contacted the Stockton Police Department. There, they found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as Cruzita Joeanna Harris of Stockton.
Soon after the attack, police identified Kevin McKinsley-Harris as a suspect in the fatal stabbing. He was located and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of felony murder, according to jail records.
Stockton police Officer David Scott said authorities could not confirm the connection between the victim and the suspect, but said it was a “domestic/known relationship.”
Police are continuing to investigate the slaying in order to better understand what occurred and a motive for the attack, Scott said.
McKinsley-Harris is being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court on Thursday.
The slaying marks the 21st homicide in Stockton this year.
