The public is being asked to submit nominations of names for three new city parks by the end of September.

The parks include an 11.5-acre park at the corner of Westlake and Scott Creek drives, a 2.7-acre park at Valens Way and Orbison Lane, and a .69-acre park at Parliament Street and Skynyrd Way.

City officials said the application period will remain open until Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and can be submitted online or via a paper form found at https://www.stocktonca.gov/newparks.

All nominations will be considered by a naming committee who is responsible for reviewing the submissions and making recommendations to the City Council. The commission is made up of representatives from the Stockton Arts Commission, the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, Cultural Heritage Board, Public Works Department, and Community Services Department

  1. The page link for https://stocktonca.gov/newparks doesn’t work. I think one of the parks in that subdivision with the rock’n’roll band names (Valens at Orbison, Parliament at Skynyrd) should be named Gary Young Park, for the late Pavement drummer and studio engineer who recorded that band’s classic debut album “Slanted & Enchanted” a couple of miles away at his home studio off West Lane near Morada Lane. It’s only fitting.
