A resolution was unanimously passed by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors in support of displaying “In God We Trust” in the board chambers.
Board chair Miguel Villapudua said the county seal that is already in the chamber would not be changed or altered with the new addition of the U.S. national motto.
“In God We Trust” has been the country’s motto since 1956 when President Dwight Eisenhower signed and adopted a law.
During public comment for the agenda item, only one person spoke and said they were in support of adding the motto.
Following the passing of the resolution, county staff will investigate suitable applications for the display and their costs and bring it back to the board for final approval.
