Good morning, Stockton.

We are following a troubling story involving the Department of Homeland Security.

Shaylee Navarro explains the blowback DHS is getting after publishing — and then deleting — a social media post featuring an image of a Sikh truck driver from Stockton accused in a deadly Florida crash. Critics say the post promoted anti-Sikh sentiment days before the annual commemoration of 9/11.

In Stockton, the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks was marked by a special ceremony attended by veterans, firefighters, police officers and community members.

There are other events happening in the area this weekend. Be sure to explore our Things to Do guide, which highlights Saint Basil’s annual Greek Food Festival and two other festivals on the water: jazz and gospel.

And before you start your weekend, check out the upcoming city meetings in Stockton and elsewhere in San Joaquin County.

Thanks for starting your day with us. We’ll see you back here on Tuesday.
