Two men suspected of killing a Stockton 16-year-old boy were arrested this month, Stockton Police said Thursday.
Jaylen Morn, 19, and Marciano Rivera, 20, were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of killing teenager Valentino Mark Gilmore. Rivera was arrested a week after Morn, and faces additional charges of attempted murder and special circumstance robbery, jail records show.
In June, Gilmore , who went by the nickname “Tino,” was found around midnight on a Saturday inside a vehicle that had crashed into a tree after he was shot. He died at the collision site, in the 1900 block of Hickock Court, the Stockton Police Department said at the time.
Police spokesperson Omer Edhah said it is unknown whether there was any relation between Gilmore and either suspect. Edhah, citing an ongoing investigation, could not say how detectives determined Morn and Rivera were connected to the shooting or their motive.
Near the crash site, a 55-year-old man was found with a graze wound, though police said he did not appear to be connected to the shooting that killed Gilmore.
That June weekend, police had responded to another shooting on the other side of town, where Antioch resident Ceasar Raasann Ammons Sr. was found shot in the leg after an argument with a “known suspect,” police initially said. The 53-year-old later died at the hospital.
Though unrelated, the two shootings marked Stockton’s 11th and 12th homicides this year.
