Stockton police were called out over the weekend to a pair of fatal shootings reported about 13 hours apart in the Valley Oak district.
Detectives were still searching for clues Monday, with no suspects named in either killing. Though the victims were found blocks apart, there was no immediate indication from police that the homicides were related.
The first occurred after 8 p.m. Friday when officers rushed to the 400 block of east Bianchi Road after receiving a report of a person having been shot. A man with multiple gunshot wounds was transported to a local hospital, where he died, authorities said.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday identified the victim as Tyree Jones III, 52, of Oakland.
The second fatality was reported about 9:30 a.m. Saturday after police discovered a 41-year-old man who had been shot and was unresponsive in the 200 block of Carson Place. He died at the scene, officers said.
The man’s identity was not disclosed pending notification of next of kin by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The shootings come just days after Stockton’s 47th homicide of the year, a man fatally shot in a neighborhood near the University of the Pacific campus. That victim was identified as BeJay Orth, 53, of Lodi.
