Stockton police arrested a second suspect over the weekend in connection with a November shooting that killed a 30-year-old man and wounded an 18-year-old.

De’Andre Watts, 23, is the latest suspect to be booked in the fatal shooting near north California and east Park streets, police said in a statement. He was taken into custody Saturday with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force. Watts was booked on suspicion of murder, jail records show.

The shooting took place the week before Thanksgiving. Police officers responded about 6:44 p.m. Nov. 18 and found two men struck by bullets. Both were taken to an area hospital. A man later identified as Richard Guerrero, 30, was pronounced dead; the younger victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said

Within a week, Stockton police had a suspect in custody. De’Arius Wilson, 22, was booked on suspicion of felony murder in addition to numerous other allegations, jail records show. His arrest was also a joint operation with the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force, police said.

“This was a great team effort by our detectives and evidence technicians, who were relentless in their pursuit of justice for the families involved,” Officer David Scott, a police spokesman, said Monday.

Although the suspects have similar first names, police say the men are not related.

Both Watts and Wilson are being held without bail in the San Joaquin County jail and are due in court Tuesday.
