A 20-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in a parking lot at Oak Park, Stockton police said.
Officers responding to reports of a shooting in the 3500 block of north Sutter Street, which borders the park, found a young man with a gunshot wound about 1 p.m.
He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died, police said. The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim on Thursday as Justice Booth, a Stockton resident.
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, but there was no immediate word on a motive in the shooting or a suspect in the attack.
Booth’s death is the second in as many months of a young man at or near one of the city’s parks. On Feb. 1, Julian Martinez, 17, was shot to death near Anderson Park. Three suspects — ages 13, 14 and 16 — have been arrested in connection with the slaying.
The shooting near Oak Park marks the eighth homicide of the year. Last year at this time, the city had reported 11 killings, according to police.
