The man accused of murdering a woman outside God’s Throne Church was committed to a state hospital in April.

Luis Zavalza, 47, is charged with the murder of Arianna Buzenes, who was killed on Dec. 12, 2025, according to Stockton Police Department. Her body was found outside God’s Throne Church in Stockton, near Lindsay and Sutter streets around 8:50 a.m., authorities said.

In February, Zavalza was identified as the main suspect for the homicide, according to the department. Police said he was already being detained for another alleged crime. 

Zavalza also faces an additional penalty of using a knife, a deadly or dangerous weapon, according to local coverage. 


San Joaquin County Superior Judge Kristine Eagle granted a condition for inpatient treatment at a locked facility for Zavalza during a court hearing on April 9, according to local news outlets. He was committed for two years to the Department of State Hospitals, according to reporting.

As part of his treatment, Zavalza will take anti-psychotic medication, according to news reporting.  

The court ordered that the hospital provide a 90-day report, which will take place on July 16, news reports read.
